Biología y análisis de la pesquería española de cigala (Nephrops norvegicus) del Suroeste de Irlanda

Abstract

La pesquería española de cigala (Nephrops norvegicus) en el banco de Porcupine (SO Irlanda) ha mermado notablemente en los últimos 30 años. Pese a ser una pesquería de gran valor económico, apenas hay bibliografía sobre este recurso.Con esta tesis doctoral, se pretende empezar a cubrir en cierta medida esta laguna. En el Capítulo 1, se describe cómo fue desarrollándose la pesquería desde 1927 hasta la actualidad; los aspectos geomorfológicos, hidrográficos, biológicos y pesqueros del banco de Porcupine y los objetivos de la tesis. En el Capítulo 2, se determina la abundancia y distribución de la especie en la zona. El Capítulo 3 trata de los aspectos reproductivos de la población: se estima la talla de madurez sexual de machos y hembras y se determinan los ciclos de maduración gonadal e incubación y la fecundidad efectiva. En el Capítulo 4, se describe la pesquería española de cigala en el banco de Porcupine y la evolución de la estructura de la población a lo largo del tiempo. Se modeliza la serie temporal de la captura por unidad de esfuerzo como indicador de la abundancia del recurso y también su relación con variables poblacionales y medioambientales.

The Spanish Norway lobster (Nephrops norvegicus) fishery in the Porcupine bank (SW of Ireland) has markedly decreased in the last 30 years. In spite of being a fishery with a high economic value, there has not been a vast bibliography about this resource. We have tried to start to fill this gap, in some way, with this doctoral thesis. Chapter 1 describes how the fishery was developed since 1972, the geomorphologic, hydrographic, biological and fishery aspect of the Porcupine bank, and the thesis objectives. In Chapter 2 the abundance and distribution of the species in the area are established. Chapter 3 deals with the reproductive aspects of the population: the male and female sexual maturity length is estimated, and the gonadal maturing process, the incubation cycle and the effective fecundity are determined. Chapter 4 describes the Spanish Norway lobster fishery in the Porcupine bank and the evolution of the population structure over time. The temporal series of catch per effor unit as resource abundance indicator is modelized, and also its relation with population and environmental variables.
