Abstract
A sedimentological and geochemical study of 4 cores of the AtlanticMoroccoan margin retrieved during the
MVSEIS/08 cruise (R/V Hesperides) has been done. Fourtypes of sediments have been distinguished on the
basis of the sedimentological features, organic matter and carbonate content and C/N ratio: a) Organic-rich
hemipelagic sediments with C/N close to 8; b) carbonate and organic matter-rich outcropping units with C/N
ratios close to 15.5, c) mud breccia units, with low TOC and organic matter values and d) hemipelagic-like units
with intermediate geochemical values that are probably related to sedimentary instability.
