Data compilation on the different variables needed to validate the model for developmental time. Embryo development time (EDT, in d) is defined as the elapsed time from the fertilization of the ovocite to the birth of the new individual. Offspring development time (ODT, in d) is the elapsed time from the fertilization of the ovocite to the end of maternal care. Temperature column shows the temperature at which EDT was measured, in degrees Celsius. All the mass variables are reported in g or cm3. We have compiled data of body size of animals at the end of offspring development time (mo) and for adults (M). The different sources are listed in the respective columns. Column C’ shows the expected offspring production rate (number of offspring female-1 day-1) at the temperature at which EDT was measured. See Methods section in the main text for calculation details.
