abstract = {A Joint submission for the extension of the Continental Shelf beyond 200 miles in respect of the area of the Celtic 
Sea and the Bay of Biscay was completed and submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental 
Shelf of the United Nations by four costal states, France, Ireland, Spain and the United Kingdom of Great Britain 
and Northern Ireland in May 2006. On 24 March 2009, the Commission approved the Final Recommendations of 
the new Outer Limits in this area, publishing it on the official web of the Commission. This joint submission was 
made pursuant to Article 76, paragraph 8 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and under 
Rule 4 of Annex I of the Rules of Procedure which permits joint submissions. It is made in support of the 
establishment by these four coastal Statesof the outer limits of their continental shelf in the area of the Celtic Sea 
and the Bay of Biscay that lies beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines of each State from which the 
breadths of their respective territorial seas are measured. This submission was therefore, of a joint nature, and was 
prepared collectively and collaboratively by the four coastal States concerned. Within this collaborative program, 
including a joint cruise, the Breogham cruise, that took place in September 2005 on board the Spanish Research 
Vessel Hespérides, in order to acquire new and criticaldata to support the Joint submission, and in which 
representatives of all four coastal States participated.},
