Jesús Rivera Martinez is graduate in Marine Sciences from Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and has a master degree in GIS (Geographic Information Systems). Started working in the IEO in 2001 and is permanent staff of this institution since 2007. He has taken part in more than 50 oceanographic cruises, 11 of them as Chief Scientist. Most of these surveys were focused on geological and habitat mapping using multibeam and seismic reflection techniques as well as ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and direct sampling for ground-truthing purposes. He co-authored several (SCI) scientific papers and book chapters, mainly related with geomorphology, cold water corals and habitat mapping. Also co-authored maps, videos and articles for a non-academic public and for children education.
