Figueroa, R.I. (Rosa Isabel)

Biography
My research focuses on the life cycle of dinoflagellates and their parasites, at the chromosomal and molecular levels. Dinoflagellates can grow massively and reach very high cell densities, forming a bloom. The blooms have noxious and sometimes also toxic effects on human health. Therefore, the problem is not the presence of dinoflagellates, but their massive growth, composed by asexual and sexual processes. I study both and how ecological factors modulate their interaction.
