José Luis Cort (Palma de Mallorca, Spain, 1949), licensed in Biological Sciences (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 1973), PhD in Animal Biology (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 1989). Chief of research of the Bluefin tuna (Bay of Biscay), 1974-1997; national coordinator of statistics of tropical tuna species in the Indian Ocean, 1983-1997; chaired the Standing Committee on Research and Statistics (SCRS) of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), 1989-1993; national coordinator of tuna species (IEO), 1989-1997; was employed (P-5) at the Fisheries Department of the FAO (United Nations) in Rome (Italy), 1997-2002; and director of the Centro Oceanográfico de Santander, 2003-2009.
